Title : Undercover Empath
Author : RaShelle Workman
Genre : Paranormal Romance
Source : Free copy from Curiosity Quills for honest review.

 Blurb :

Nineteen-year-old detective Rose Hansen has a secret. She can read a person’s intentions by touching their hands. It’s a curse! A power she never uses if she can help it.

Only one person knows. Her partner Jack.

At least that’s what she believes until a handsome, shirtless stranger appears on her doorstep in small town Blush Valley, California.

He leaves her an envelope, but not before articulating his disappointment in her for ignoring her powers.

The contents send Rose on a path toward the supernatural, solving her parents’ murders, and possibly even saving the world.

Aside from that, Rose and her partner have two important cases they’re working. The first involves a missing child. The other is the death of a stripper. Ruled a murder, a very hot FBI agent from L.A. shows up and is given lead. To make matters worse, he asks her to go undercover.

Her life is a disaster. Rose can’t strip. She doesn’t even own a dress.

My Musings :

The cover artist did a bang up job on the book cover. It attracted me with its harmonious colour combinations. And it also denotes the personality of the heroine, Rose in my view. She is as colourful as the image with the different sides to her character.

Rose is a well developed character with her tough as nails detective image on one side and her vulnerability on another side. She stands out among the cast of people in the book while Vincent seems like a part developed one. I felt that the author was too hasty in writing him. The side characters add diversity to the story ranging from my favourite, Jack with his good friend vibe to the ones who made me grit my teeth with their dialogues.

The blurb is too straight forward and doesn't hint at the complexity of the story. Though the book is a fast read due to its easy language, the story itself has all elements of a good paranormal mystery with Rose's ability to know a person's intentions on touching them and the slew of deaths occurring in their town. I didn't include romance in it because though it is one, it didn't feel that way to me. The romantic aspect felt too hurried and I am not at all for the relationship between Rose and Vincent.

The story behind the deaths and the romance parts have only been given a start in this book and hopefully it will be more expanded on in the coming book. Another thing I am looking forward to is to know more about Rose and her background. The mysterious deaths and also Rose's parents' deaths in her past all form the a big jigsaw puzzle which will be resolved in the series. And I hope the author would unveil more about the partially revealed world created in this short and sweet book.

The author has managed to hook me with her story of various sub plots and I am looking forward to the next book eagerly. In short, I would recommend this wonderful start to a new paranormal series to readers who like a pinch of everything in their reads.

My one line review : A must read for paranormal mystery+romance lovers!

My rating : 5/5

My reread factor : 4/5
