Summerita Rhayne writes contemporary and historical romance with lots of emotional conflict. She first got published in 2013 and has won contests with prestigious publishers such as Harlequin and Harper Collins India. Her pet belief is, if the inspiration is strong enough, the story characters will find a way to make the writer pen them down, even when writing time is in short supply. When cerebrally confronted with the sizzling interaction of two Alpha characters, the only way to get peace is write their book!

At heart, she's a family person and even though she loves her medical teaching profession, she happily becomes a homemaker when not at work. She loves winding down with music, romcoms and cricket (strictly watching only).

Excerpt :

I let my eyes wander to my arms, which were draped around his neck. His brown waves tickled the backs of my hands, and I wondered what it would be like to tangle my fingers in his hair and caress those silken strands. “What about you?” I asked, turning my attention back to him again. It was hard to concentrate and I couldn’t decide if that was because I was still tipsy, or because I was so close to Will. “Are you my friend?”

Will’s face fell, his eyes going suddenly distant. “I don’t know what we are. I don’t really do friends.”

I smiled, warmth blooming in my chest. “That’s funny, I didn’t ask you to do me.”

Merry has enough to deal with without the sexy distraction that is Deputy Knight. She’s currently working undercover on what might be the most important story of her career, avoiding an unwelcome half-brother who’s invaded her life in Jupiter Point, and, oh yeah—her new boss wants her to do a story on a local cold case—the unsolved murder of Will’s father. A painful event he and his brothers are reluctant to relive. And then there’s that online flirtation… A bossy alpha male with a protective streak a mile wide, and a fiercely independent reporter with a talent for trouble. EXCERPT:

CHAPTER ONE

“So you’ve returned,” Duncan rasped, the words catching, slicing through a too-dry throat. “The woman who one moment handfasted with me”—he swallowed to ease his throat and blinked, hoping to keep the phantasm in view—“and the next turned me out of bed in disgust.”
Was…was the lovely nighean wiping his brow indeed his Fiona?
His Fiona.
Ach, fever-addled his mind was. The handfasting, her disappearance… But that was several weeks past. More events had transpired, he was sure.
Sharp pain speared his shoulder and filtered across his chest, a reminder.
The battle…
“What happened?” The words scratched past his parched throat, but he’d be damned if he let that stop him. Wincing, he rolled upward, but his muscles protested, and he dropped back against the unforgiving mattress, jarring the pain in his shoulder. The movement set his world spinning, his head strangely a-whirl. Mo Chreach, what ailed him?
He clamped his eyes closed, as if to shield his roiling stomach.
A warm hand pushed against his chest, the touch gentle but firm. “Easy now,” her melodious, oddly accented voice said near his ear.
Day and night that voice had haunted him since first he’d heard it.
She pushed her arm under his shoulders and gripped him tight, the fabric of her clothing cool against his heated skin. Her scent, like the freshest grass in spring and the sweetest flowers, enveloped him. “Try to drink this.” She raised him slightly.
He cracked an eye open again. Aye. ’Twas Fiona. Feverish he might be, but never could he be forgetting the night she secretly pledged herself to him and then pushed him away.
Nor could he ignore how her nearness now acted as a balm. A balm which soothed his confusion and pain.
His eyes had a dry, dragging weight to them. He blinked. Forced them open. Though darkness cloaked the room, save a lone, flickering candle near the bed, he recognized the bare stone walls and sparse furniture of his own chamber. How…?
“It wasn’t disgust.” Her voice was small, tentative.
Before he could reply, she pressed the tin cup to his mouth, the metal cool against his parched, dry lips. He took a sip, quickly swallowing. Bitter. Metallic. Not as putrid as old Hamish’s concoction. Och, she could be poisoning him, to be sure, but his mind was so clouded, his body so racked with pain, that he cared not.
He eased back against the pillow and closed his eyes, the exercise strangely exhausting.
“What happened?” he asked again.
“What do you remember?”
Smoke from the discharge of hundreds of rifles and the scattered cannon of the Williamites. Confusion as the battle waged in the twilight. The vacant eyes of their chieftain fixed on the blue-night sky. And then… “Yourself. And Traci appearing at the battle. Dundee, shot.”
“No,” she whispered. He shouldn’t find even the tone of her voice lovely, but curse him, he did. “You were shot. You took the bullet meant for him.”
Shot. He edged his hand up his chest, the action disconcertingly hard to achieve. His fingers searched, touched. Met with stiff fabric. That explained his shoulder. The ungodly pain. But he’d suffer that and more if it meant Dundee lived.
Did he? “And Dundee? Iain?” He dropped his arm back to his side.
“Both survived the battle.”
A light feeling suffused him, the relief easing the last of his tension, though it highlighted the pain clamping down on his shoulder, throbbing. “I must be going to the great hall. Help me arise, woman.”
She pushed against him, her enticing scent shrouding him anew. Near her elbow, the candle lent enough light to caress the gentle, sloping line of her neck, delicate jaw, round cheek, and…
Holy Mother. Those eyes. Those gray-blue, intelligent but playful eyes. Eyes that had also drawn him that first night they’d met.
So enthusiastic, she’d been. Her smiles. Och, made just for him they seemed, though he’d told himself it couldn’t be so. But as the night spun onward, and his defenses crumbled, he’d thought… Well, he thought he’d finally found the one person who made him feel wanted for himself, not for what he could do for them. Aye, he’d finally and inexplicably felt at home.
As they handfasted in secret, trusting his instincts, he spun fancies as to the shape of their shared life. The little ones they’d create together. The belonging he’d feel. Already felt.
However, when they were to lay together, she recoiled, and he cursed himself for a fool. Cursed the whisky he’d consumed. For he’d forgotten his heart’s poor judgment. Longing speared through him anew, rivaling the pain in his shoulder.
Concern marred her forehead, but he’d be unwise to believe it meant anything more. They’d handfasted, aye, but that meant nothing if the other didn’t acknowledge it. Especially in these modern times with the Kirk frowning on such declarations, and with no witnesses.

The author has attempted to write characters who make good choices in questionable situations, in effort to keep the content appropriate for teens. This book contains no sex, written or implied, and no explicit language. Recommended for ages 14 and up.

 EXCERPT

He smiled back at me. “Then you approve?” he asked, waving his hand over his body. “I even wore school colors,

just for you.”

My eyebrows bunched together. “You wore a white polo,” I said flatly.

He defended himself. “And the school colors are red and white, are they not?”

“Fine. You win,” I conceded, shaking my head. Why was he so difficult? And cute?

BUY:

First impressions are always the most important ones. And this applies to both how I felt about the book cover and blurb. The blurb had me intrigued and the first scene of the book which makes for a superb heroine entry and the protagonists' meeting were too memorable to not love this book!

From there, the story took off with Evie and Richard's unusual friendship. The plot thickened as the book progressed mostly because of the time period and Richard's character. Actually if we look at the plot, it isn't too complicated. But the characters and the situations which arise because of their actions and thoughts were what make the book engrossing and entertaining. The story is light at the beginning but started to get more serious as it moved on.

The characters were well fleshed and they entangled me in their emotions easily especially Evie. Evie is the predominant person with her perfectness record. She is brave and generous and loyal to a fault. But there were a few scenes where her character faltered a bit. Richard is the darker one with his connections to the underbelly of the Regency era. Inspite of it, he is the one who shines light in others' lives. Only thing I didn't like was his hesitancy of accepting Evie. That was not in line with his character at all. He, himself, was the hindrance which slowed the flow of the tale. Or should I say, the society and Richard were the antagonistic elements in the book.

The author has touched on sensitive issues and she has handled with sensitivity. Her careful handling of issues and her writing style make for a good tale. The pace was perfect except for the lengthy protestations on Richard's side. All in all, I absolutely enjoyed Evie's stubbornness and Richard's gallantry.

I received a free copy for reviewing purposes. I voluntarily review the book and these are my own thoughts on it.

My one line review : A pairing romance lovers are sure to love with their intensity!

My rating : 4/5

My reread factor : 4/5

Book Blitz - Turning in Circles by Michelle Buckman

Young Adult / Southern fiction
Date Published: April, 2017

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Savannah and Charleston, two sisters living in a small Southern town, have always been close. They've shared everything with one another...until Dillon, the one boy in school who's bad news, sets his sights on Charleston. As she's drawn down his dark, destructive path, Savannah panics, knowing this isn't a relationship destined for anything but trouble.

She turns to her lifelong best friend, Ellerbe, for help, but there's a shift in their relationship. The connection they've shared is taking a turn toward something more, something deeper. And Savannah isn't sure she's ready for a romance while trying to save her sister.

As Savannah's foundation begins to crumble, every decision becomes an unchangeable step toward an outcome that could have tragic repercussions.

Excerpt

I took a deep breath, breathing in the smell of the earth, the sweat of the horses, and distinctive smell of cotton balls hanging from plants in the sun. It relaxed me and made talking seem right. “I’m worried about Charleston. I think she got a second detention on purpose.”
“Why would she do that?”
I hesitated, wondering how he might react, but plunged into it. “I think she has a thing for Dillon Smith; she got detention again so she could see him. From what I hear, he’s always in detention.”
“Dillon. Huh.”
It wasn’t quite the reaction I expected. More of a thinking-it-over response instead of the disgust I felt.
I slumped in my saddle. “Well, I can’t believe it. Dillon. Ugh. He’s… well, you know. Remember what he wrote on the gym wall?”
Of course Ellerbe remembered it. Everyone had seen it. It didn’t bear repeating, but being a guy, Ellerbe had laughed it off like most of them.
“Can’t say I’d want him for a brother-in-law anyhow.” His face remained serious. Serious. Like that might happen.
“You don’t think… oh, my gosh, she couldn’t possibly let it go that far. Why did you even have to suggest it?”
He laughed at me. “You’re so gullible. It’s just a school thing. She’ll be over him as soon as the next guy whistles at her.”
I so wanted to believe that. “You think?”
“This is Charleston we’re talking about.”
That was the end of discussion for him. He didn’t understand the implications of it all. His eyes played over my face, and I knew he was laughing at me for being so worried.
He pushed Snow into a trot. “Come on. To the creek.”
Ellerbe’s answer to every problem in the world—ride!
I sighed, thinking maybe he was right. Charleston could be pretty fickle. Maybe it was nothing to worry about.

Release Day Blitz - Binding Magic by Debbie Cassidy

Being left behind to hold the fort every time the world needs saving, sucks.

For Carmella Hunter, a witch blood with practically no magick, being surrounded by powerful friends has taken its toll. For once it would be nice to be the one doing the saving. Stuck in a dead end job in Piccadilly’s favourite bakery, Carmella spends her days making cinnamon rolls and her evenings feeding the homeless, all the while dreaming of making a difference.

One huge pastry order for the Covens annual meet and an attack of flu germs leaves Carmella delirious with a fever—too delirious to avoid a fateful bargain with a djinn named Paimon. Bound to do his bidding, his seductive voice in her head and his infuriating arrogance make the partnership a trying one. With Paimon, Carmella gets her first taste of power. A power she must use to track down the monsters hunting Paimon’s people. Suddenly Carmella isn’t so helpless anymore.

Things get complicated when her boss, and close friend, goes missing, and the enforcement agencies don’t seem too bothered about looking for a celestial dancer who likes to sleep around. With the help of Mal Banner, the Piccadilly Coven Elder Witch and self professed playboy, Carmella finally has the opportunity to be the hero she’s always wanted to be.
But someone doesn’t want Carmella digging. Someone will go to any lengths to make her stop.

The Witch Blood Chronicles is the spin off series to the hugely popular Gatekeeper Chronicles coauthored with Jasmine Walt, and although it can be enjoyed as a standalone series, the author recommends reading The Gatekeeper Chronicles first for maximum impact.
