And read on to know more about my thoughts on the book so far.

When we decided that we would do a buddy read, we compared our books on Goodreads and chose The Leopard Vanguard from the common to-be-read books.

I chose the book primarily because it was about Rome. Rome and Greece are two favourite topics of mine though I don't know much about them. The book is immersed in Roman life and we get to read all about the frustration of the common people and the political intrigue of the higher level Roman dignitaries.

The book delves deep into Rome with its imagery and we can easily imagine the scenes taking place because of the vivid prose though at times, I found the language a bit coarse. That kind of surprised me. The part we have read hints at magic and it's just about mundane events not even one magical event. I am thinking it will start soon!

The protagonist, Tullus is a decent fellow so far, high above everyone in his morality. I wish Eliana would have gone with him. But she seems to be a clever person with some kind of a motive instead of the usual high born girl with her head in the clouds. I am not quite sure if I like her but I liked Tullus very much. There are so many characters that at times I got confused with the names.

Now I am moving on to the next part of the book hoping to read about the elusive magical element of the story.

The next update will be posted on June 8, 2015.

Stay tuned!

  1. I agree with you about Eliana. There's something about her I can't put my finger on just yet. I don't think we've seen the last of her either.

  2. I am sure she will crop up later and I think she might be an important character too.
