My Musings :

This was a good satisfactory read. It was a breeze to read through and I finished it within half a day. I luckily had a day off to enjoy the book.

I am a huge fan of best friends to lovers trope and I was excited to try the new author and her debut book. I loved the complexity of the characters. The story was rather simple. It was a bit predictable and the conflicts were a bit blown out of proportion. But, that's a huge but, it was justified because it does happen in real life. What I liked best was that the author kept it realistic and tailored to the current generation.

I love the development of characters in the stories I read. So this was another plus point in this book. Emily, though like an ostrich, evolved into a better adult. She was a bit of a doormat in the beginning but it added a tiny bit of interest to her character. Now Emma was different story. She needed to be a mean person for the story to evolve and I was gratified that she changed near the end. Derek was a dream hero. He was so in love with Emily that I fell in love with him.

It was a completely entertaining read with the romance between Derek and Emily which was kind of sweet and it had moments of fun as well as sadness. There was lots of angst about the past and the author has done a good job of creating a bit of a mystery with the layering of the story in bits. At the end I was pretty good with the absolution of all the plot lines.

So far I have pointed what I liked. There were a few things which had me confused also. One of them was Derek's reaction to Emma in college. It misdirected me in regards to his feelings. Then there was the protagonists' dating near the end. I was surprised that people didn't figure it out early and it felt a bit insensitive especially on Derek's part. I felt that the language used by the author wasn't as easy as normal readers would like.

So combining all of it, I would say it was a very good first book!

I received a copy for reviewing purposes.

My one line review : A light romance with a deep look into family loyalties.

My rating : 4/5

My reread factor : 3/5

Author Bio:

Veronica Thatcher is an exciting new contemporary romance author. Ever since she was very young, she’s dreamed of becoming a doctor when she grew up. While still forging ahead with that, majoring in pre-med in college, she unwittingly stumbled upon a new dream—becoming a published author. Some may call her an introvert or a wallflower, but she has always found she could express herself better in written, rather than spoken, words. However, never in her wildest dreams had she envisioned she would pursue writing as a prospective career, not just a hobby. Her love for writing goes hand-in-hand with her love for a good romance novel—whether it be a feel-good, sweet romance or a dark, suspenseful one. When she’s not studying, reading, or writing, she is usually found blasting her favourite songs, sometimes singing and dancing along to them. She dabbles in a number of activities, including painting, karate, singing and dancing. She is a huge chocoholic – probably the biggest – and she is an ice-cream junkie too. She considers herself technologically handicapped forever and has no shame in admitting that. She also deems chocolates her boyfriend, Patrick Dempsey the love of her life, and Friends her life!

Her first book, A Way Back Into Love, is slated for release in February 2017, and she hopes readers will enjoy it as much as she enjoyed writing it. You can reach Veronica through Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, Wattpad and Gmail.
