by Elizabeth Foster

Genre: YA Fantasy/Mystery

Release Date: October 2017
Odyssey Books

Summary:
This was her last chance. Her hand twisted high in the air.

When fifteen-year-old Esme Silver objects at her father’s wedding, her protest is dismissed as the impulsive reaction of a stubborn, selfish teenager. Everyone else has accepted the loss of Esme’s mother – so why can’t she?

But Esme is suspicious. She is sure that others are covering up the real reason for her mother’s disappearance – that ‘lost at sea’ is code for something more terrible, something she has a right to know.

After Esme is accidentally swept into the enchanted world of Aeolia, the truth begins to unfold. With her newfound friends, Daniel and Lillian, Esme retraces her mother’s steps in the glittering canal city of Esperance, untangling the threads of Ariane’s double life. But the more Esme discovers about her mother, the more she questions whether she really knew her at all…

Advance Praise:

“I found the story very unique […] this book overtook my expectations […] A beautiful, fantastical mystery. I would love to read multiple books following this one.” – Tamsyn, 15

“I was enchanted by the world, awed by the creatures and as motivated as Esme to find out what happened to her mother.” – Angie, 14

Esme’s Wish is a captivating, excellently-written novel. Author Elizabeth Foster did a great job of keeping me reading as I followed Esme’s journey to investigate the disappearance of her mother, a brilliant painter. [...] This colorful, well-constructed tale is as much detective story as fantasy and deftly blends both elements into a page-turning plot that hooks the reader in. I was fascinated by the creative water world of Aeolia, described in Elizabeth Foster’s limpid, seductive prose. -Sarah Scheele for Readers’ Favorite 5 STARS

My Musings :

I have always been a sucker for a good book cover. So as soon as I saw this book's cover, I was enchanted. There is something which pulls at me. It depicts Aeolia perfectly. And when I read the blurb, Esme's protest at her father's wedding make me perk up with interest.

The starting was intriguing with the aforementioned incident. It totally had my interest and then it slowed down a bit for the next few pages till Esme enters Aeolia. Oh my, what a world! The world is an absolute delight. I was literally bombarded with the details as I stepped into it alongside Esme. And there the mystery of her mother's disappearance continues. The world is depicted in such a language that it instantly transports us to it with its vivid imagery. There is so much to take in with the magic system and the dragons just to name a few.

Now coming to the characters, I loved meeting Daniel, Lillian and all others in the supporting cast. They weave into the story so completely that it would be incomplete without them. Their friendship is the backbone of Esme's stay and ultimately her way to solving the mystery. The mystery, while had me engrossed, got shadowed by the world, Aeolia itself. But I enjoyed tracing Esme's journey to the ending.

The ending has me hankering for more of Esme and her world. I can't wait for the sequel. I hope it also has the same fast pace and fascinating attention to detail. I will be recommending this book to all YA fantasy lovers!

I received a copy for reviewing purposes. And this doesn't affect my review in any way.

My one line review : A fascinating magical world with a hint of mystery.

My rating : 5/5

My reread factor : 4.5/5
