Arjun is an incredibly nice guy who believes in true love and is waiting for it with open arms. He falls in love, not once or twice, but thrice. And every single time, happiness – like the girls he fell for – comes very close to him before pushing him away. His only pillar of strength in all his moments of grief and dejection is his childhood friend Anjali. Dejected by the games played by girls and fate, he leaves Hyderabad for Bangalore and ends up meeting Krish, an irresistible flirt.

Krish understands Arjun's predicament, pacifies him with his words and enlightens him about the most complicated species ever created by God – Women. And then, Arjun's life changes forever. Will Arjun find the one he has been waiting for, or will he end up becoming a flirt? Will he ever taste lasting happiness? Join Arjun as he tries to figure out women and discovers the meaning of love, lust and life… all in his journey of Finding Juliet.

My Musings :

"We have a Romeo... We need a Juliet!" The song from Bommarillu, a telugu movie aptly describes the book. The story is about the journey of Arjun in finding his Juliet. It turned out to be quite an eventful one with the variations of joy and sadness, lust and love and friendship.

The book cover was what made me take a second look at the book. I had almost overlooked it but at the last moment I took a chance on it because the cover art was tugging at my attention. The blurb is rather bland and doesn't ignite any interest at all. The story turned out better than it hinted at.

The starting was rather normal with all the teenage crushes and loves and heart breaks. It was a very easy part to read since the author has used simple language attuned to the youth of today. Though I am no longer in the YA bracket, I know enough of their language to enjoy the book. It was a very fast read because of it and also the scenes synced in well with each other. There was a natural flow and none of the interactions felt forced.

I usually look for good characters in the books I read. The author disappointed me a bit with Arjun's characterisation. Though he had a positive feel to his character in the beginning, the way he wandered from his true self, though realistic because who doesn't fall off the track at times?, he kind of fell flat in the second half. He wasn't strong enough of a protagonist for me. I felt Anjali was more of a truer main character than Arjun. I loved Anjali's devotion and her strength.

There are two supporting characters who stood out for me. They are Krish, with his playboy reputation and his poignant sign off at the end and Rahul with his understated love for Anjali. I felt Rahul would have been a better jodi for Anjali. They seemed the perfect pair.

The story, though simple and straight forward with an almost Indian movie style feel, made me go through a gamut of emotions during its span. I loved that the author could evoke such a wide range of feelings with his narration. The part which I could vividly feel and remember was the part where Krish narrated his story. My heart bled for him. But there are certain points like the various stereotypes of women who fall in lust with Arjun which didn't sit well with me. It was at once surreal and realistic in parts. I rather enjoyed the book inspite of the few shortcomings.

I for one would further read the author's works in the future to see how he plays his characters in each of his tales!

I received a paperback from the author. This doesn't affect my review in any way. This is my honest and unbiased review.

My one line review : A surreal and realistic tale of a Romeo in search of his Juliet.

My rating : 4/5

My reread factor : 3/5
