Book Blast - Sprinkled with Love by Jennifer Faye

Sprinkled with Love by Jennifer Faye

What does one do with a matchmaking cat named Romeo?

Spirited and beautiful, Jillian Parker is one of Marietta’s newest business owners. Still, her mother worries about Jillian’s bare ring finger. So in order to give her mother something else to fuss over, Jillian adopts a cat named Romeo. He turns out to be anything but a docile lap cat.

One snowy night, Romeo makes a break for it. With Jillian right on his heels, they have a near miss with a passing pickup driven by Avery Wainwright, one of Jillian’s closest friends. A rodeo accident has the sexy cowboy returning home to recuperate, and he’s not happy about it.

So when Avery finds himself lassoed into the Bachelor Bake-Off, he turns to the one person who has always helped him out—Jillian. But will teaching him to take chances outside of the show ring have them both discovering that their feelings for each other run much deeper than they ever imagined?

EXCERPT

Jillian went to move past Avery, but with him standing behind the couch, there wasn’t much room between him and the wall. Not about to let on that it bothered her being this close to him, she forged ahead.

As she did, she got a whiff of his woodsy cologne. Mm… She kept moving, but her thoughts centered on the pleasing yet complex scent with its hints of fresh-cut cedar and other earthy tones mixed with his unique scent. It was quite a heady mixture.

Realizing she was letting her mind drift into dangerous territory, she reined it in. She focused on retrieving the cat. Knowing every inch of Avery’s family home, Jillian made her way to the back bedroom. Painted in purple and trimmed in white, it too was mostly as she remembered it. A new white comforter with large purple polka dots was the only notable difference. And there on the bed sat Marshmallow on a pillow while Romeo was curled up in the middle of the bed.

“There you are. You look mighty pleased with yourself.”

Romeo blinked his golden eyes.

Behind her, Jillian heard Avery’s uneven footsteps. She turned to him. “I thought Romeo was hiding?”

“He was. I swear.”

“Uh-huh. Then how do you explain this?” She moved aside so Avery could see both cats on the bed.

“Seems as though Romeo is making progress.”

“Progress?”

Avery nodded. “It appears he has the hots for Marshmallow, but she isn’t having any part of it.”

Jillian’s gaze moved back to the cats. Romeo had turned his head to stare at Marshmallow. If a cat could make facial expressions, then Marshmallow was definitely frowning at Romeo. Jillian couldn’t hold back a laugh. This night was like one long, strange dream, ending with a budding feline romance. Is this what her life had become? Playing chaperone to cats?

Book Blast - The Rise of Miss Notley by Rachael Anderson

The Rise of Miss Notley by Rachael Anderson

When Miss Coralynn Notley’s father barters her off to the first titled gentleman to come along, she realizes she must flee her home or be forced to wed a despicable man. Driven by desperation, she applies for the position of housekeeper at Tanglewood Manor, the home of the handsome Mr. Jonathan Ludlow. The moment Jonathan sees Miss Notley, he is intrigued. She is far too young and inexperienced, yet there is something about her that that inspires a certain hope within him. Does he dare offer her the position of housekeeper or will doing so result in catastrophe?

Excerpt :
Cora nodded and followed Mr. Ludlow into the parlor. He closed the doors and stood in front of them with his arms folded, looking far more intimidating than he had during their last meeting. He said nothing, merely lifted an inquiring eyebrow and waited.
Caught unprepared, Cora stared at him, trying to organize her thoughts into words. After a few moments of awkward silence, he lost patience. “What is it you wished to speak with me about, Mrs. Notley? Or are we to stand here staring at each other all afternoon?”
Not knowing how else to begin, Cora blurted, “Why have you hired me, sir?”
He blinked a few times before frowning. “I believe I have made that perfectly clear. You are to be the housekeeper, are you not?”
This was going to be more difficult than she had imagined. “Yes, of course, but there has been some talk about, or rather concerns expressed . . .” How did one put this delicately?
“About . . .?” he prodded, obviously not thrilled that his morning regime had been waylaid.
“About the reasons I have been offered the position,” she quickly said, hoping that would be enough to make him understand her meaning.
Unfortunately, his brows drew together in confusion. “What are you saying, Mrs. Notley? I have hired you to do certain duties that will hopefully make my household run more smoothly. What other reason could I possibly have for offering you the position?”
“You have hired me to do a job I am untrained to do,” she said. “While I am grateful for the opportunity, I also find it necessary to clarify that I have come here to be a housekeeper and only a housekeeper. Even though I am young and . . .” Her voice drifted off. Had she almost referred to herself as pretty? Goodness, this was proving to be very awkward indeed.
“Beautiful?” he finally guessed, not looking at all pleased with the direction the conversation was taking.
“I was going to say not repulsive,” she fibbed.
“Very well,” he said. “Even though you are young and not repulsive . . .” He moved his hand in a circular gesture, urging her to finish her thought.
Cora straightened her shoulders and forced herself to continue. “I am not the sort of girl who would ever . . . fraternize with her employer.” Her face infused with heat, but she forced her gaze to remain steady.
“I see.” He walked slowly towards her, rubbing his chin with his hand. A few steps away, he stopped and eyed her quizzically. “Have I made any improper advances towards you?”
“No, sir.”
“Have I spoken to you in an unprofessional manner?”
“No.”
“Have I looked at you in a way that has made you feel uncomfortable?”
“No.” Cora suddenly wished she had not felt the need to clarify anything. He made her feel as though she had put the cart before the horse when what she had been trying to do was see that the cart and horse simply stayed in their proper places. Was that so wrong?
“Might I ask who, exactly, has led you to believe that I am the sort of man capable of—how did you put it? Fraternizing with my help?”
“I, er, would rather not say, sir.” Though Cora felt no loyalty towards Sally, she refused to bring Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd’s names into the conversation. “I did not mean to besmirch your name or cause any offense, Mr. Ludlow. I merely wanted to make my feelings on the matter clear.”
“And you have.”
“Good.” Cora dropped into a quick curtsy, anxious to get away. “I shall go and find Watts now.”
She was almost to the door when his voice stopped her. “Once again, you are attempting to scuttle away before we have completed our conversation.”
Slowly, she turned around and lifted her eyes to his. “I never scuttle, sir.”
“What would you call that rapid walk of yours?”
“A rapid walk.”

A Millionaire at Midnight
by Naima Simone
Bachelor Auction, #4
Publication Date: February 13, 2017
Genres: Adult, Entangled: Indulgence, Contemporary Romance

BUY:

Blurb:

Boston socialite Morgan Lett is having a run of bad luck. Her fiancĂ© just dumped her for her stepsister, the charity foundation she’s given her life to is in danger of folding, and now, the gorgeous man she bid on and won at a masquerade bachelor auction turns out to be a cold-hearted jerk…and her new employer.

Millionaire Alexander Bishop needs the best wife money can buy. In order to inherit his family business, he must get engaged—fast. And Morgan, with her beauty and pedigree, is the perfect candidate. Her sharp tongue may drive him crazy, but she needs money to save the foundation she loves, and he needs a fiancĂ©e. It’s a flawless arrangement—no strings, no love. But soon she has him craving more, and cursing the platonic terms of their agreement.

Still, he won’t allow need—no matter how hot it burns—to threaten everything he’s built.

My Musings :

I don't remember what made me pick up this book. The trope of fake fiance isn't one of my favourite themes. Yeah I do read them but not often. There was something which made me read this book and am I glad!! By the time I had finished chapter 2, I was hooked.

From the beginning, the author had me emotionally reeled in. There were such a variety of feelings and emotions going through my head while reading. The first few pages saw me upset and angry and hurt on behalf of Morgan and then the helter skelter ride of lust and like between Morgan and Alex. It was a whirlwind and I survived it unscathed with a very good read under my belt.

The beginning started off with a bang with Alex's dislike of Morgan and Morgan's playful wrong acting of a gold digger. It had me cackling with glee early on. I loved Alex's reaction on understanding Morgan and her character. And I also was moved by the person behind Alex's bland wall.

Morgan and Alex are both cut from the same cloth but use different ways to stay sane. Morgan is a very sweet person who had me mad at her step father's treatment. I am still not sure if I like her step sister or not. On one hand, I am so mad at her but on the other hand I am glad because without her Morgan would have missed Alex. Alex feels so much that he shutters himself in tight not to show them out. Again, his father made me so mad with his partiality. This book has so many characters and if I don't love them, I am mad at them. Inspite of it, I loved reading the interactions among them and the way they impacted each other.

This was another fast read. The romance was neither too edgy nor soft. The story's flow was at perfect pace and I loved getting to know the protagonists. I can foresee myself reading more of the author's works.

I received an e-book through Netgalley for reviewing purpose. This doesn't affect my thoughts in any way. This is an unbiased and honest review.

My one line review : A romance which evokes strong emotions.

My rating : 5/5

My reread factor : 4.5/5

Excerpt :

“I’m sorry you feel that way, but you cannot stop Isolde from marrying. She will marry one day. It may not be me, but it will be someone. And if the reports around London are correct, she is looking for a husband.”

“Damn you to hell.” Merrick left Wardoor, grabbed a half-filled bottle of whisky from the pavilion, and started toward the Italian Walk. He found a secluded grassy spot within the trees. The sweet-smelling scent floating on the breeze did little to lesson his ire.

Merrick clung to the tree branch above his head and fought not to snap it off, imagining it as Wardoor’s neck. He flung back a good portion of the whisky and welcomed the burn to his throat. How could his closest friend do this to him?

The thought of Isolde welcoming his attentions was like a physical blow.

Damn them. Damn him.

“Moore!”

It had always boded trouble when Isolde called him by his title. He turned, wanting and yet not wanting her here right at this moment. “My lady.”

She came up to him, standing but a few feet from his person, close enough to reach out and touch, to pull close and take what he desperately sought. And wished for.

“What do you think you’re doing, running off Wardoor from courting me?”

“He told you?” Merrick made a note to choke the bastard to death the next time he was in range to do so.

“Yes, he told me. After seeing you two trying to kill each other, in front of everyone, I might add, I asked him what you were about. Demanded to know, in fact.” She placed her hands on her hips, her perfect brow marred with a slight frown. Hell, she was beautiful. More beautiful than when he had met her at Cranleigh. “Now answer the question.”

“He’s my friend.”

She stood staring at him a while, before she slouched, as if gauging his meaning. “Merrick, you keep forgetting you married someone else. You have to let me go, if this is your struggle.”

It was his struggle. A constant gnawing on his soul that would never leave. “What if I do not want to?”

Blog Tour / Book Musings - Any Boy But You by Julie Hammerle

Welcome to the blog tour of Any Boy but You by Julie Hammerle. I am hosting a review today on my blog.

Any Boy but You (North Pole, Minnesota #1) by Julie Hammerle
Publication Date: February 13, 2017
Publisher: Entangled: Crush

Blurb

Elena Chestnut has been chatting with an anonymous boy late into the night. It’s a very You’ve Got Mail situation, and she has no idea who he is. He can’t be Oliver Prince, hot-and-bashful son of the family running the rival sporting goods store. Their fancy sales strategies are driving Elena’s family out of business. Elena’s mystery boy has teamed up with her in their latest sales strategy, an augmented reality game, to help her win the grand-prize plane tickets. Money’s so tight Elena’s going to miss senior year spring break with her friends if she can’t win this game.

The girl Oliver's fallen head-over-heels for online had better not be Elena Chestnut. She's his angry, vindictive Latin tutor, the daughter of his dad’s business rival, and the one girl he’d never even think of kissing. She’s definitely not his online crush, because that girl is funny, sweet, and perfect.

When Oliver asks to reveal their names at the Valentine’s Day dance, their IRL relationship will either ruin what they have online, or they’ll discover just how thin the line between love and hate really is.

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains swearing, snowball fights, and sexual tension that could melt the North Pole. Read at your own risk.

My Musings :

I have been reading lots of other genres like adult romance and fantasy so I was due a break from them. When I came across this blurb, I was interested because of the mysterious messaging theme. And adding in the concept of arch enemies being involved with each other, the author had me sold on reading the book. It was time for a sweet romance and this one hit the spot!

It has all the characteristics of a teen romance - little bit of angst, a touch of betrayal and cute romance between an imperfect pair. I call the pairing of Elena and Oliver as imperfect because neither of them are oh-so-perfect in their characteristics. Oliver while being brilliant enough to create an app which has the entire town immersed in a game, can't pass all subjects at school. Though he is cute, he is anti-social. Elena is a goody person who can't go against her parents but that doesn't stop her from being curious enough to take part in the game. It's small things like these which add to the charm of the protagonists.

When I started the book, I was like "Uhuh" because I felt Harper might be interested in Oliver. But I loved the way the author played out Harper's romance though the ending kind of made me sad. The beginning chapters had me feeling sad for Elena and her family because of the town people flocking to the Princes but as the story progressed that feeling diminished and I started feeling dislike for the feud.

The premise of the story is interesting for a teen romance lover but it's actually Elena and Oliver's shy and snarky (do they go together?) relationship which is the real hook in the story. The romance is light but cute with a sweet undertone to it. The slow buildup and the ultimate reveal of their identities had me swooning at times. The ending had  a couple of surprises and I wish more of their together-as-couple scenes could have been included.

All in all, it is an adorable teen romance which had me giddy and smiling softly in turns.

I received a review copy and this in no impacts my thoughts on this book. It is my honest and unbiased review.

My one line review : A cute fun romance between an imperfect pair.

My rating : 5/5

My reread factor : 3.5/5

Read an Excerpt:

Emily stepped back from him and shook her head. “Oh, you know damn well what I mean. You know what, Derek? I’m done having this conversation with you. I’m so done with this conversation and I’m so done with you,” Emily spat out angrily before brushing past him.

“Emily, wait,” Derek said, catching her by her arm. “Where are you going?”

Emily spun around and gave him a bitter look before looking down at his hand gripping her arm. “Leave my arm,” she said in a low yet threatening voice, “And why do you care where I’m going? It’s none of your business.”

Derek didn’t leave her arm in spite of her warning and said, “Em, you’ve had too many drinks. You can’t drive in this condition. I’ll drop you home.”

Emily jerked her arm free from his grasp and replied in a bitter voice, “Thank you, but no. I’m perfectly capable of getting myself home on my own. I don’t need you to drop me home. Do you get it, Derek Thorpe? I DON’T NEED YOU!” Emily yelled the last words, causing a few people to look their way.

About the Author:

Veronica Thatcher is an exciting new contemporary romance author. Ever since she was very young, she’s dreamed of becoming a doctor when she grew up. While still forging ahead with that, majoring in pre-med in college, she unwittingly stumbled upon a new dream—becoming a published author. Some may call her an introvert or a wallflower, but she has always found she could express herself better in written, rather than spoken, words. However, never in her wildest dreams had she envisioned she would pursue writing as a prospective career, not just a hobby. Her love for writing goes hand-in-hand with her love for a good romance novel—whether it be a feel-good, sweet romance or a dark, suspenseful one. When she’s not studying, reading, or writing, she is usually found blasting her favourite songs, sometimes singing and dancing along to them.  She dabbles in a number of activities, including painting, karate, singing and dancing. She is a huge chocoholic – probably the biggest – and she is an ice-cream junkie too. She considers herself technologically handicapped forever and has no shame in admitting that. She also deems chocolates her boyfriend, Patrick Dempsey the love of her life, and Friends her life!
Her first book, A Way Back Into Love, is slated for release in February 2017, and she hopes readers will enjoy it as much as she enjoyed writing it. You can reach Veronica through Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, Wattpad and Gmail.

Blog Tour / Interview - The Hunted by Heidi Angell

Welcome to the blog tour of The Hunted, the sequel to The Hunter's Saga by Heidi Angell.

The Hunters: For those who believe vampires should be killed, not kissed.

What would you do if you found your town had been infested with vampires? For Chris and his brother Lucas, the answer was simple enough: you fight back. Gathering a small band of other people in their town who have been affected by the vampires, they begin a resistance. But after a year of fighting, they have only managed to kill a handful, while the vampire leader has turned five times that many.

Then two enigmatic strangers appear, changing the group’s lives even further.

Fury and Havoc. They call themselves hunters, and want no part in this little band of heroes. Ordering them to lay low, the duo vow to rid their town of vampires. When Fury is injured, Chris aides these strangers, entwining his future with theirs.

Now that the vampires know the hunters are here, and that Chris and his friends have helped them, the group is in more danger than ever before. Lucas is torn between protecting his new family from the vampires, and protecting them from these seemingly inhuman beings who say they are there to help.

After all, what beings could be so powerful as to scare a vampire?

The Hunters has a 4.4 rating on Amazon, and a 4.2 rating on Goodreads. Hear what reviewers have to say:

Joy: “I felt like I was watching a movie ‘cause this one (The Hunters) has the makings of a good one.”

Larry: “This non-stop action packed book will keep you on the edge of your seat.”

Today I am hosting a stop interviewing Heidi Angell. Before we start talking with her, a few facts about her.

Heidi Angell is a bibliophile, lexicomaniac and wordsmith. She is the author of The Hunters Series, The Clear Angel Chronicles, and The Hell School Series. She also created Royal Prince Vince, and Creative Exercises to Inspire.

When she is not reading and writing, she can be found spending quality time with her lovely family camping, hiking, swimming, or watching movies.

Learn more at her website www.heidiangell.com

Want to get to know Heidi better? Follow her on Goodreads, Instagram, or join her e-newsletter to get weekly emails that show Heidi’s reader side with author interviews, book reviews, and other awesome bookish fun!

Now let me welcome Heidi onboard! And get our talk started!

Tell us a bit about yourself, Heidi? Some things not widely known? Favourite place, food, music etc.?
Hmm... that’s hard. My life’s an open book, so what might people not know about me.... People may have inferred this about me, but I am a big believer that family is not made up of blood, but of those who bond together and support one another. My boys have a dozen aunts and uncles who are not related by blood, but who they have always known as aunts and uncles because they are my family, even if we don’t share a parent by blood (Yeah, some of them are such close family that their mother feels like my mother and their sister’s feel like my sisters!)

Are you more of a reader or a writer?

I am equally both. The passion for stories is deeply ingrained in my psyche!

What are your favourite genres?

I am eclectic! I tend to read Sci-fi and Fantasy, but am just as happy to read thrillers or nonfiction. Whatever catches my fancy. My writing preference is much the same. I write the story that demands my attention and figure out the “genre” after.

What was the very first book you have written? Is it published?

Oh, goodness. The first book I wrote (and illustrated!) was Scampy the Squirrel. And technically it was “published” thanks to my wonderful 1st grade teacher, but I have the only copy in existence ;)

What made you start writing?

Any particular incident or person? I have always been a storyteller in one form or another. My mom has a picture of me at three years old, dancing on the table with a rose in my mouth! But it was that first book that opened up the possibility of writing as storytelling. I still dabble in other forms such as music, acting, and marketing, but writing is my true love!

Are there any genres you would like to explore as a writer?

I expect to explore most of them by the time I am done writing, at the rate that I’m going.

What are you working on right now?

I am currently working on an apocalyptic story, and a contemporary romance, as well as the sequels to The Hunters Saga, The Clear Angel Chronicles, and The Hell School Series.

Tell us a bit about your writing process?

It’s a bit different with every book, depending on the needs of the story. Sometimes I do a lot of planning, and sometimes the story practically writes itself. Sometimes I do research in advance, and sometimes the research is on the fly. Sometimes I have a playlist, and sometimes I find inspiration from binge-playing certain epic shows (like Firelfy) to get the right amount of character interaction or snark! But one thing is a constant. I nest. My family knows that when mom is writing, it is gonna be awhile. I make sure I have my drinks, snacks, remotes, blanket, hoodie, etc at my fingertips and I just dive right in. Don’t interrupt me when I am reading or writing, it doesn’t tend to go well ;)

Which part is the hardest while writing a book?

Leaving other stories that demand my attention until I have finished with the one in front of my. I have dozens of notebooks and a huge folder on the Cloud with all the story ideas that have to wait until I finish the stories I have going on right now. At least I know that I’ll never run out of material!

Which part makes you the happiest while writing a book?

I love getting lost in the story. When the characters become so real that they feel like my best friends, or my enemies. When I can get enveloped in the world I’ve created and leave the struggles of real life behind.

What would you like to say to the aspiring authors out there?

Writing is a hard business. At every turn there are people telling you what you can and cannot do, how you should or should not do the writing thing. You have to be your own boss, and look out for your own interests, and bear the bad reviews, the demands to your personal life, the struggles. No sane person should ever do this. So, put your pen away. Get a “real” job.

But if the stories keep plaguing your brain, if the pen keeps finding it’s way out, if the need to write is more important than eating and sleeping, then welcome to a very unique and elite set of people! Start networking with other writers and create a support group that will help you stay motivated, stay committed, and stay a little bit sane. Pay it forward, and offer that same support to others. It is a tough job, but if you are passionate enough, it is exceptionally rewarding, even if it isn’t always monetarily.

Any more information you would like to share with your readers?

If you enjoy an eclectic range of stories, I would love for you to join me.

As an author I write The Hunters Saga, an urban fantasy for those who believe vampires should be killed, not kissed. The Clear Angel Chronicles is a psychic detective series. The Hell School Series will be a four-part YA contemporary series based on my experience with a stalker in high school. I have a couple children’s books, and the list keeps growing!

On top of that, I have a bookish blog with author interviews, book reviews, character spotlights, bookish events and sales announcements, and so much more! This month, as I celebrate the release of The Hunted, I am offering a free e-copy of the first book in the series, The Hunters, to those who sign up for my weekly e-newsletter that recaps all the bookish goodness on the blog that week. Book Blitz - Thwarted Escape by Lopamudra Banerjee

THWARTED ESCAPE: An Immigrant's Wayward Journey
by
Lopamudra Banerjee

Blurb

How far can one truly go away from his/her ancestral roots, filial ties and the claustrophobic grip of traditions and the reminiscence of an emotionally fraught childhood and puberty? The book begins with this particular quest, and it is this quest which gains momentum as a woman seeks the essence of herself-identity ten thousand miles away from her Bengali hometown.

With the lens of a time-traveler, her narrative journey encompasses her first sexual abuse, her first tryst with death, austerity, the strangeness of rituals, the inexplicable feelings of puberty and also her surrendering to love, procreation, motherhood. In herself-chosen exile in the US, she discovers that deep within; her ancestral roots are also the wellspring of her psychological, spiritual existence. In the process, she keeps on oscillating between assimilating and disintegrating, which forms the core of her journey.

Excerpt

The scent of sizzling quesadillas, bubbling soups, and slow-roasting meat made my mouth water. They dripped with flavor. I couldn’t wait to taste every single one. On the cordoned-off street, strings of flags crisscrossed the blue sky. Children laughed and kicked a soccer ball through winding legs. Everywhere the colors were so vivid they almost hurt. And the music… Ecstasy filled the notes. It’s no wonder I stopped and stared.

“A group of Folkorico, filled the main stage. Women wore dresses with huge skirts, each a different color. When the dance began, they lifted their skirts high and swished until the stage blurred with scarlet, saffron, tangerine, and amethyst. Their ribbons flew and shimmered in the sun. The raw beauty froze me to the spot.” I wished to pull out my sketchbook, but I knew the skills to capture the fluid movement eluded me.

“Julia stopped with me, but she was impatient. She couldn’t see what I saw. The rest of the class went ahead. When Mrs. Danphe found us, she didn’t scold us. Instead, she watched with me.”
She whispered, “It’s magical, isn’t it?”
    Meg

Author Meg D. Gonzalez

Meg D. Gonzalez is a tea-sipping, adventure-seeking, pug-loving kind of girl. She’s crazy for God and wants to share His love with awesome young women around the globe. She started her first novel at the age of fourteen (it will never see the light of day and that’s best for everyone), but her writing really came alive two years ago after she moved to Mexico. The crazy, wonderful people and culture she encountered inspired the story of Sketchy Tacos. When she’s not writing, she’s learning to play video games with her husband (she’s horrible), taking hikes in beautiful parks with her pug Pascal, crocheting, and watching way too much TV.
