My Musings :

I am no stranger to the author's writing and so when I saw that she has a new series, I was happy to start with the first book for a change. But all her books are easy to easy as standalones because of the list of characters at the start of each book.

The main point which caught my attention was the unsolved mystery - the disappearance of Sandy inferred in the blurb. It had the making of a perfect mystery read especially with the prologue. I was immediately interested in Sandy's fate. This curiosity is what carried me through the pages.

The author's writing style is such that the reader can easily grasp and imagine what's happening. It is so full of imagery and so easy to read too. So her books always make for a delightful few hours spent in trying to solve a case. whatever it might be about. I literally flew through the pages and I was pleasantly surprised when I realised that I had finished the book in record time.

The pacing and the way the scenes were plotted had my mind turning in circles trying to figure out the happenings of the past case. As usual, there was a variety of characters to get used to and their various mannerisms especially that of the dogs had me laughing lightly. The vein of humour was seen in the interaction with most characters - Chris, Doris, Helen and the Geezer Squad. The latter were particularly entertaining.

And the case proceedings were intricately entwined with humour and romance. So it was an all round entertainer in my POV. The way Chris went about to solve the case was realistic and fun to follow with my own brand of armchair investigation.

What I found a bit disbelieving was the way the Geezer squad were able to figure out the Jane Doe. Yes, they are well connected because of their past professions. Inspite of that, it felt too easy for them. I would have preferred a more strenous search. That's the only point which marred this book for me. Otherwise it was a full 5 star read.

As such, I very much enjoyed the solving of the Sandy case and I look forward eagerly to the next book!

I received a copy voluntarily for reviewing purposes which doesn't impact my views.

My one line review : An all round entertaining mystery with a dash of romance and humour.

My rating : 4.5/5

My reread factor : 3.5/5
