EmVee didn’t know what to think about this new town her father’s passion for boxing lured them. It was an unlikely location for her to pursue her dream of going semi-pro. Just when she started getting used to the school with gorgeous jocks and strange cheerleaders, the depth of the danger her father’s choices dangled them in front of became clear. EmVee hoped Silas and Kayson will be able to help her uncover the mystery identity of the person who is threatening her family. The question is, will she survive to expose the mystery.

My Musings :
I knew this was a prequel but I wasn't expecting such a short length and such a good impact on my reader's senses. Yes! I was expecting a bit more of a lengthy tale. This one has totally piqued my interest.
It had all the ingredients to catch my attention - a mystery, a heroine who is a fighter, literally and a paranormal tone to the tale. The book had me at the beginning and didn't let up till the end. And the end is not the or a finale but a curiosity to know what's going to happen next and how. So my appetite is completely aroused and I can't wait till I read the first book in the series. I have high hopes for it.
The characters, as much as the book could detail, were pretty good and their major points were highlighted, especially about EmVee. And her unique name is another point which won my attention. There was a lot of things going on at the same time so the pace was fast to keep my mind occupied but few things were a bit confusing. The paranormal part of the story didn't make sense till the end! I think it could have been worked into the story slowly instead of an abrupt addition. But I can see how it would star more in the following books.
In short, it was a very mysterious start and I am happy to follow the series.
I received voluntarily a copy for reviewing purposes. This doesn't impact my review in any way.
My one line review : A very mysterious start to a new series.
My rating : 4.5/5
My reread factor : 3.5/5
