My Musings :
I haven't read any of the previous books in the series and the author is also new to me. So I picked the book up purely based on the blurb. I have a reading interest in books based on serial killers. That's the reason this was an automatic read for me. After completing this book, I am interested in reading the series in order now!
The beginning of the story was instant attraction with the chapter on tarot card reading. It was intriguing and had me hooked with the first few pages. After that slowly, I started getting a feel for the protagonists and then the plot. I was able to connect more with Trudy than Levi. Levi is a scarred soul but he is more charismatic and showy while Trudy is quiet and has her own internal struggles going in. Their lives, present and past, was brought to the reader with intense emotional feels. Their emotions had me in their snare and didn't let go.
I actually was looking forward to a finding the killer case. But this felt lots different. It was more like beginning from knowing the identity of the killer to working out their path through their kills. The scenes described were macabre and so full of dark energy. It was put together in a perfect way. I loved the way the author worked it out.
Since it is a paranormal romance, I am okay with steamy scenes which would mesh with the story. But there were few instances where I felt they weren't needed much and it kind of spoilt the book a bit for me. The story flowed easily inspite of the noted obstruction. It was an easy fast read because of it. There were few things to work through before ending in a good happy finish!
I will definitely follow the series now. I am more curious about Levi and Trudy from the past books and the future ones. I hope I get to enjoy their other paranormal adventures soon!
I received a free copy for reviewing purposes. I am voluntarily reviewing it and these are my own thoughts on the book.
My one line review : An intensely dark killer story with steamy romance.
My rating : 4/5
My reread factor : 3/5
