Piya walked out of an explosive situation three years ago. She married Arfaaz for security but left him facing chaos she created. Now she's back in Bollywood and searching for the crown she gave up when she ran away. In the competitive world of starry glamour, the only way she can begin her career anew is to trash the past and get a divorce.
The man who wants her atonement
Arfaaz is determined to get his revenge on Piya for making a farce of their marriage and leaving him to face the mudslinging. He forces her to keep up the appearances and stay with him so she can play the loving wife and repent on her sins. But Piya drives him crazy with her antics. On the top of that, the attraction between them sizzles and threatens to make him forget reason.
A passionate conflict
Piya knows she has lessons to learn but she cannot let this man enter her heart. There is too much to risk and she cannot afford to forget the real reason she has come back. Success is her mantra and her worship. She can be faithful to only her goal...
My Musings :
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is another first-time author for me and I didn't know what to expect from her book. I went in blind and for that, I am happy because if I had any expectations I surely would not have enjoyed it as much as I did.
The characters were unlike any other I have read. Usually, an author portrays the protagonists mostly in a good light. But this author is different. She keeps her characters realistic enough with her various shades of grey in their characteristics. I was totally unprepared for it. At the beginning, I was almost ready to hate both Piya and Arfaaz with their negativity but I am glad I stuck it out. They were slowly redeemed and though they don't get all rosy at the end, at least they turn into very intriguing individuals. But I felt that there were few parts where the author could have added more information about the heroine and the hero. Piya was sassy and a bit dark while Arfaaz was strong and bold. Both of them had my total attention till the end.
The setting was glitzy, obviously, since it is set in Bollywood. It showed every nuance of Bollywood and the way the lives are in that part of the country. It all added a very gritty but colourful look to the story. The romance was very sensual between the protagonists. I literally felt the heat and the author has given it the right touch without overdoing it.
The author knows how to engage a reader with her romance and it was a treat to read with its fascinating plot. I can recommend it to the romance lovers out there.

Prologue
The limo slid through wrought iron gates and came to a stop in front of the entrance of the huge house designed like an ultra modern Italian villa.
‘I’m not getting out here. I’ve booked a room and I want to go to my hotel.’ She averted her gaze and stared straight ahead as Arfaaz held the door open.
For answer, he paused. An inhalation expanded his chest, drawing her unwilling gaze. He’d discarded the ridiculous narrow jacket and the white dress shirt drew taut against his pectorals, sending something threatening and alien coiling through her.
The next moment he’d swooped down and picked her up, taking advantage of her inattention.
His hands went under her as he gathered her in his arms as easily as he would a bird in his hand. She had to duck her head to escape the side of the car and then he was slamming the door shut with a foot kick.
‘How dare you!’ She flailed at him furiously, pent-up frustration escaping. ‘Let me go. Now!’
He was warm, too much so. She found her throat clogging for some unknown reason.
Before she could react anymore, he let her slide down, but she was struggling and squirming so much, she lost her balance and fell, smack against his body.
He stepped back as though she burned him and mortification swept over her skin at the implied rejection.
‘You can’t force me to do what you want!’ she bit out, breathless from effort.
‘I’ll get what I need to know out of you anyway I can.’
‘What do you want to know? Why am I here? Okay, I’ll tell you. It’s to lay down this ghost between us. This meaningless tie...’ She made a gesture to denote contempt and tipped up her chin at him. ‘I want a divorce, Arfaaz. And I want it as quickly as possible.’
‘Very well.’ The soft agreement dropped in the silence with thunderous force, like a rock thudding down from the mountain. ‘Don’t doubt it, Piya. You’ll get it.’

Book Musings - The Siren by Elicia Hyder
Blurb :
All the missing victims of North Carolina’s deadliest serial killer have been found, all except Rachel Smith. When the FBI produces a photo proving Rachel is alive and well in Texas, one case is closed but another one is opened. Either this is a case of mistaken identity or there are more people than just Sloan Jordan and Warren Parish who seem to walk the earth without a soul.
Along with Detective Nathan McNamara, Sloan and Warren travel south to find Rachel and solve the biggest mystery of all: determining who—or what—they really are.
My Musings :
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
The book picks up right where it left off in the first book. This book had more paranormal elements than the previous one. I believe this book to be better than the first. Read on to know why.
Firstly, the characters become more realistic in their relationships. The author creates a triangle of tense moments of passion and attraction among Sloan, Warren and Nathan. The characters were better in this part of the story. Sloan has become more invested in her parental identity and this forms the bulk of the tale. Secondly, the vivid imagery created by the author's writing style had me turning the pages faster. It was super easy to visualize the scenes and the action parts clearly and this led to a satisfactory read.
The romance aspect was pretty hot between Sloan and Warren. I am sort of uncomfortable about the attraction between Nathan and Sloan and the ending doesn't help either. The paranormal parts had more center stage this time around. The background information about people like Sloan and Warren and the different politics behind it all made for a compelling read.
I had one issue with the ending. It wasn't to my satisfaction and then the big cliffhanger had me pouting. The author knows how to reel her readers in and I believe that the third book will also be a much awaited read.
My rating : 4.5/5

Excerpt
“Mason, MASON, MASON!” Skylar panicked.
“I know. Skylar, hold on tight. I’m going to brake.”
“But there are cars behind us.”
“We have no choice. Don’t worry. I got this.” Mason pushed down on the brake forcefully. The car hydroplaned to the right. “Hold on.”
Skylar gripped the first thing her hand found. The water from the road jetted up into the air like in a water show, but the car kept gliding sideways, until finally it spun in a full circle and stopped. With no time to waste, Mason turned it to the right and accelerated, hoping to dodge what was coming toward them.
Out of nowhere, a long piece of ice, taking the form of a spear, darted through the trucks’ tires and punctured some of them. More ice spears came soaring out of the rain, but this time ten or more sphere-like ice balls followed, denting the sides of the trucks. One went through a windshield. With flat tires, the trucks now glided as if skating on ice, maneuvering from side to side.
“Did you do that?” Skylar asked excitedly.
“No. Must be Poseidon’s kids. Where the hell are they?” Mason spread his right arm out in front of Skylar as if to protect her. “Bend down, Sky.”
One of the trucks hit another and veered off, hitting yet another one. The crash caused the trucks to flip and tumble, heading straight for Mason’s car. With a look of shock, Skylar held her breath. There was no time to move, think, or get out of the car, so she closed her eyes and prepared for the crash.
Seconds before impact, Mason’s car flew up into the air and over the trucks. Somehow, as if by magic, the water created a liquid bridge, guiding the car safely over, and then it thumped hard onto the ground on the other side. Without looking back, Mason sped away as the sound of screeching brakes and metal hitting metal blasted behind them.

Book Spotlight - The Florentine Deception by Carey Nachenberg
Blurb :
A seemingly mundane computer clean-up leads to an electrifying quest for an enigmatic—and deadly—treasure in this gripping techno-thriller.
After selling his dorm-room startup for millions and effectively retiring at the age of twenty-five, Alex Fife is eager for a new challenge. When he agrees to clean up an old PC as a favor, he never expects to find the adventure of a lifetime waiting for him inside the machine. But as he rummages through old emails, Alex stumbles upon a startling discovery: The previous owner, a shady antiques smuggler, had been trying to unload a mysterious object known as the Florentine on the black market. And with the dealer’s untimely passing, the Florentine is now unaccounted for and ripe for the taking. Alex dives headfirst into a hunt for the priceless object.
What starts out as a seemingly innocuous pursuit quickly devolves into a nightmare when Alex discovers the true technological nature of the Florentine. Not just a lost treasure, it’s something far more insidious: a weapon that could bring the developed world to its knees. Alex races through subterranean grottos, freezing morgues, and hidden cellars in the dark underbelly of Los Angeles, desperate to find the Florentine before it falls into the wrong hands. Because if nefarious forces find it first, there’ll be nothing Alex—or anyone else—can do to prevent a catastrophic attack.

My Musings :
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
If it wasn't for the blurb, I would have totally passed up this book. The book cover is good at a glance but doesn't intrigue enough to read the story. The author had me at the book title and the blurb hinting at the heroine being a fighter. I love spunky heroines and Sammy is no exception. And now I can say that I enjoyed her story and wish there was more to it.
The characters were portrayed well with the emphasis on Sammy. She is a seriously hot girl with mad fighting skills. I was literally wide eyed when I was reading her fight scenes. They had me cheering for her. The only thing I wasn't able to digest was her age. She seemed older and more mature and so she being just 16 years in the story was unbelievable. Then there's Gregory. At first, I didn't like him that much. He seemed to be bit of a spineless person. But then he stood up for Sammy and took her side. That showed me in a favourable light and then his courage at the end had me liking him better.
The supporting cast was a colourful group from Sammy's relatives who had me giggling with their antics to Gregory's rich family and friends who irked me with their behaviour. But then that's reality! McCloud, Hudson and Pony were the perfect antagonists with their dark personalities and activities. The 2 characters who stood out for me were Granny Kate and Rocky. Granny Kate had me smiling with her quirky attitude while Rocky had me surprised with his backstory.
The story was written in vivid detail especially the fights. The action scenes had me eagerly turning the pages while the pace of the tale was fast. There was always something happening at a given time in the book. The romance part was light but tastefully done. The look into gypsy life style was interesting and fun. The ending was partly satisfactory and it was kind of a cliffhanger ending what with Sammy thinking of going to US for the boot camp. I hope the author continues the story soon. I obviously can't wait for the sequel if there is one!
My rating : 4/5

My Musings :
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
The book started off on a high note. The situation was tense from the beginning. Nicole was targeted by a serial killer and Kyle was working on the case and he had a personal interest in the killer. From the first time they both meet, the sexual tension was palpable between them. The chemistry was off the charts hot and it took on a life of its own. The romance aspect was both sizzling and sweet in turns.
Nicole was a strong character inspite of her recent attacks. She put up a brave front and she was realistic in her fears. Kyle was a typical cop, wanting to protect Nicole and at the same time wanting to apprehend Barber. But I felt that he was a bit callous in the beginning because of his personal agenda. He quickly mellowed out and chose Nicole over his anger. Another pair I quite enjoyed reading about were Rob and Sheryl. They were cute and made the perfect pair.
The book was quite heavy on the romance and less on the suspense. The killer was revealed near the beginning so there was no mystery there. The only story to follow was how Kyle would get Barber. I would have liked a more suspenseful story. I found it a bit lacking in it. But I loved the interactions of the characters. It made for a fast read. The pace was fast and definitely had me trying to find out what Barber was planning next.
The ending was a bit predictable. I almost saw the scene playing out as soon as Kyle and Rob were called to check out the tip. Another delightful addition to the cast was Charlie. And I loved the way he was rewarded at the end. It had me laughing softly. It made the perfect ending with all 3,yes, 3 pairs getting together.
The author has an easy style of narration and her writing makes for the perfect weekend read. I can recommend this one to romance lovers and I will also be checking out her other books.
My rating : 4/5

My writing career began in 2011, after my wonderful husband bought me a Kindle for Christmas and changed my world. I started reading romance novels, and fell in love with them. I decided to write one myself, and disappeared into my room over a long Wisconsin winter and wrote my debut novel, PROTECTING ROSE. I submitted to a few publishing houses and was offered a contract with Soul Mate Publishing, which I quickly accepted.
PROTECTING ROSE went on to win the 2012 Gayle Wilson Award of Excellence in the romantic suspense category. Well, I was hooked.
Today, I'm a multi-published, award-winning author, and live in Wisconsin with my husband Patrick. I love to read, play piano, and spend time with family and friends. I enjoy novels with fast-paced action and steamy romance, protective alpha men and strong heroines. I belong to several writing groups, including Romance Writers of America (RWA) and Sisters in Crime.

Release Day Blitz - Wasted Words by Staci Hart
Today is the book's release day. Check it out!
Blurb :
Some universal truths refuse to be ignored.
Peanut butter and jelly are a match made in heaven. Spaghetti and meatballs are best friends forever. And guys like Tyler Knight don’t go for girls like Cam Emerson.
She knew from the second she met him that he didn’t belong on her bookshelf, the six-foot-six ex-tight end with a face so all-American, it could have sold apple pie. So she shelved him next to the supermodels and rock stars and took her place on her own shelf — the one with the flannel-clad, pasty-faced comic book nerds. Most of her boyfriends have existed between the pages of books, but rather than worrying over her own lacking love life, she puts all her energy into playing Cupid, using her job at the book bar, Wastedd Words, as her stomping ground.
Tyler Knight always looks on the bright side. His career-ending injury turned into a job as a sports agent. A horrible breakup led him to Cam, his quirky, smart roommate who is far more beautiful than she realizes. She’s made it perfectly clear she’s not interested in him — not like that at least — but if she ever changes her mind, he won’t hesitate. Because he doesn’t see the lines she’s drawn between them, as much as she insists that they’re there. Deep down he knows that despite their differences, they’re a match well made.
*A romantic comedy inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma*
Meet the Author :
Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life: a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, even though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k.
From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's sleeping, cleaning, or designing graphics.
