My Musings :
This is the first time I am reading a book from this author and it kind of disappointed me. But I won't say that it was a total washout though.
Actually the short story was written pretty well. The way how it is actually kind of a teaser for the next book, Pretty Girls is what made me lose the enthusiasm for the book, mind, I say book not the story. Because the story reeled me in easily with its premise and the description.
The author set the stage with the delightful insight into the daily life of Julia. It was done in a manner meant to entice the readers to want to know more about her. It was just the tip of the iceberg in this case and the book ended right when more was to be revealed. This has just whetted my appetite and I am ready to get Pretty Girls to know what's the real story because I am sure that's where the true tale is.
On the other hand, the book has made me think about the psychological reasons people get snapped up from the street. It is mind boggling and scary and makes one be more paranoid.
So, overall, the story merits a 4 star on performance and a 3 star on it being a prelude-ish book.
My one line review : More of a prelude than a full story with engaging premise.
