My Musings :
First of all, I got to say the new book cover is way better than the old one. But I would never associate Missy with curvy handwriting or font. She is a tough one through and through except near the end where she starts to get softer.
When I requested a copy for review, I was expecting an exciting tale of Missy surviving alone as a werecat. But I didn't expect the beginning to be so hard to get into. Oh, the story was good. But the first nearly 20% was in a narrative style. It was too passive for my taste. I would have liked more action. There was action going on but it was written as a narrative. I wasn't sure at that stage if I would continue or stop reading the book.
But I continued reading and I had the same problem nearly half of the book. The book was in passive voice. There were few dialogues and direct action in between but I still hung on and followed the story as it was, the interesting life of Missy. And then it picked up and went at a very fast pace. I loved reading about Missy's adventures though they were unbelievable at some points. Who doesn't love a spunky, tough heroine? I loved Missy!! I enjoyed reading about her adventures be it in martial arts or in helping out friends and setting the wrong doers right.
In addition to Missy, I liked Mike. He has to be a special guy to fall for Missy. I found Missy to be gutsy while her family to be a tiny bit unrealistic. Oh they supported her fully in all her works but I didn't get why they weren't more shocked by her transformation. The other thing I found unbelievable was Missy's brutality near the end. That so wasn't her. All characters, other than Missy, weren't focused on, not even little bit. I hope to get to know them more and hopefully the author would include others actively in the story.
Towards the end, I liked the adventurous journey. I would read the sequels if I got a copy but I wouldn't watch for them especially. I was leaning towards 2 1/2 rating at the start but I think I will go with a 3 star rating.
My one line review : A passive but interesting tale of a lone werecat and her (extra)ordinary adventures.
