Blog Tour / Book Musings - #Starstruck by Sariah Wilson

#Starstruck by Sariah Wilson “You’ve done better.” With one uncharacteristically sassy tweet to her longtime celebrity crush, Zoe Miller’s life turns upside down. Ultrahot A-lister Chase Covington doesn’t just respond to Zoe’s tweet, he does the unthinkable: he messages Zoe directly. Now she must decide between walking away or meeting her crush in person. Chase knows better than to trust anyone from the Internet, but Zoe’s saucy challenge has totally caught his interest—and her girl-next-door personality is keeping it. He’s been burned enough to know he needs to keep his heart close. But his feelings for Zoe might be a lot more than just an online flirtation. He just has to convince her… When the press gets wind of Zoe and Chase’s secret relationship, their romance turns into tabloid headlines. Will they be able to hold on to their Hollywood love story?

My Musings :

There are only a handful of romance books which make me reread them often and I count this one among those! This was one of the early books I read in 2018 and I loved the story. I think it would be hard to beat this one's feel good vibe.

Love is one word I can use to describe this book. Love the protagonists! Zoe was so down to earth and at the same time holding on to her ideals and morals. I adored her fandom about Chase. It was one of the cute points of her character. I was absolutely impressed with Chase. At first, he seemed too good to be true. But the look into his past explained his awesomeness. Now who wouldn't love a star hero who was 100% human in his interactions??

The book was a quick read and I kept on turning the pages ending up at the finale. I was surprised that I finished the book that fast! It was light and fun. The romance was wholesome and giddiness inducing. There were many scenes which made me giggle like a young girl with a crush. That feeling is so precious and it isn't often that I feel that way. So it was a real treat reading this book.

I look forward to checking out her other books. Yes, this was my first book of hers so I am kind of excited and reluctant in turns to pick up her other stories since I don't want the joyful feeling I got from this one to end in disappointment because of too much expectation!

I received a copy voluntarily for reviewing purposes. This doesn't impact my thoughts in any way.

My one line review : A fun and light romance.

My rating : 5/5

My reread factor : 4.5/5

Author Sariah Wilson

Bestselling author Sariah Wilson has never jumped out of an airplane or climbed Mount Everest, and she is not a former CIA operative. She has, however, been madly, passionately in love with her soul mate and is a fervent believer in happily ever afters—which is why she writes romances like The Royals of Monterra series. After growing up in Southern California as the oldest of nine (yes, nine) children, she graduated from Brigham Young University with a semiuseless degree in history. She currently lives with the aforementioned soul mate and their four children in Utah, along with three tiger barb fish, a cat named Tiger, and a recently departed hamster who is buried in the backyard (and has nothing at all to do with tigers).

Blog Tour / Book Musings - Right Kiss Wrong Guy by Natalie Decker

Right Kiss Wrong Guy (Offsides #2) by Natalie Decker
Publication Date: January 23, 2018
Publisher: Swoon Romance

Blurb :
You'd think a girl with the most romantic name in the world would have her pick of boyfriends.

But Valentine's Day sucks when you're single. Just ask Juliet Valentine, whose last name happens to also be the name of the most dreaded made-up holiday ever.

A romantic at heart, this year is especially hard on Juliet. Her sister, Layla, is in a new relationship, her mom's match-making business is doing great, and her school's new fundraiser is "Love-Grams."

Juliet's miserable, a little jealous, and lonely.

Quarterback Jared Black is the most popular guy in school. A star athlete, Jared tops the most-eligible bachelor list year after year. But to Juliet Valentine, he's all but invisible. She isn't impressed.

Jared's never had to work hard to get the attention of a girl before. Valentine's Day is fast approaching, and he's determined to ask Juliet out. After all, if Tyler can win over Layla, Jared ought to have a shot with Layla's sister.

Unlike Tyler and Layla, charm, flattery and good looks won't work on Juliet. So with the V-Day dance coming up, Jared uses the school’s Love-Grams to let Juliet know how he feels. Should be simple enough, right?

Wrong. Each attempt ends up either in the trash or thrown in someone's face. Juliet won't play his game.

Now, without a date to the dance Jared realizes it’s going to take a Hail Mary to win the girl of his dreams.

My Musings :

I had already the previous book in the series and I had quite a bit of fun with it. So when I came across this one, I didn't hesitate to pick it up.

The starting of the book was quite good and it kind of left off where Layla's story had ended. So it was a continuation for me. But it can read as a standalone. There aren't that many references to confuse the reader.

I was quite looking forward to Juliet's story. So the change in her character had me blinking in surprise. I so didn't see that coming. I knew she would be hurt but not to the extent that her character is completely changed. But still, I liked her in this book. She was feisty and a bit grouchy and yet entertaining with her quirks and reactions. As for Jared, he was the sweetest in his actions and his plans to woo Juliet with the love grams. He definitely made me swoon with his long lived love for Juliet!

As much as I had a fun time reading the book with the continued efforts of Jared in winning Juliet over and her continued rebuffing of Jared's actions, there were few points which made the story weaker in my opinion. Juliet's blind hatred of Jared could have been better explained in the story. And though Jared was a great guy, he seemed to be holding back when it comes to his love life. And the ending felt kind of rushed for me. It literally had me blinking at the abruptness. It could have been played out a bit more.

Inspite of it all, I did enjoy the tale of Juliet's stubbornness and Jared's patience. Now I can't wait to read about Addie in the future!

I received a copy voluntarily for reviewing purposes. This doesn't impact my thoughts in any way.

My one line review : A quick school romance with a rushed ending.

My rating : 3.5/5

My reread factor : 3/5

My Musings

A new author and a new series always make me feel good. And this book hit almost all the points to be a good book for me. I am glad that I caught the first book because it is intriguing with the background given in this book.

The story started off with knowing Father Gunther and his unusual work. That itself was interesting enough to make me go forward with the story. Then there was the situation in Bucktown. What started off mildly went on to become an engrossing read.

The way the paranormal elements have been weaved in with the plotline was quite engaging. My attention was caught with the details of the demons and how they worked in the world. And I could very well imagine the scenes because of the author's vivid writing. There was no doubt or wavering in her words and that set a strong view of the story.

The characters I met in this book had my curiosity piqued and I am hoping to getting to meet them in detail in the future books. Father Gunther, himself, was a very captivating character. He was human enough with his flaws to feel comfortable with. At times, I had a slight difficulty with correlating him with being a priest. No one else stood out much except for his reluctant partner. I am hoping to many more paranormal adventures to them.

The story line was easy to follow and had a fast pace but was quite short in length. That was a point which both appealed and vexed me. I liked it since it was not a long tedious read but kind of hated it since I felt it could have been a bit longer with more information about the town and the people. They were only explained in broad strokes.

As intriguing as the starting was, the ending left me with enough suspense and questions regarding the Dodge and Father Gunther's past. I am sure I will be piecing together his past like a puzzle with the bits the author is sure to send my way in each book. I am definitely interested enough to follow the series!

I received a copy for reviewing purposes. This doesn't affect my review in any way.

My one line review : An intriguing start to a new paranormal series.

My rating : 4/5

My reread factor : 4/5

  Excerpt

This was getting ridiculous. Justin was more handsy than an octopus. “Stop touching me,” Ariana warned.
He laughed. “Come on, babe. Don’t be so stiff. You know you like it.”
“No, I don’t like it,” she countered. “No one likes being pawed.” Revulsion churned in her gut as his eyes went to her chest. An incredulous laugh bubbled in her throat. Was he really ogling her chest, right here in front of her? What a jerk! As soon as she got home, she was going to contact Heart to Heart and put in a complaint. They really should be more diligent in making sure people were truthful in their profiles. Justin was nothing like he’d pretended to be, and it was obvious he was only after one thing … and it wasn’t a long-term relationship. She tensed, clenching her fists. “Hey, buddy. My face is up here.”
He snorted out a chortle. “Yeah, but you’ve got something else going on down there. For a little girl, you’ve got a nice rack.”
She froze amidst the dancing couples surrounding them. “What did you just say to me?”
He laughed. “You heard me. Lighten up.” He grabbed her waist with an iron grip. “I thought Latin girls were supposed to be loose.”
Her hand balled into a fist, and she thought about how it would feel to knock him across the floor. “I’m going to give you a half a second to let go of me.”
He grunted in amusement. “Make me.”
Heat splintered up her neck, making her feel like her head would split in two. Then cool precision took over as she calculated Justin’s height and weight. The bigger they are … the harder they fall. From the corner of her eye, she saw the blonde guy from earlier approach. “Is everything okay here?” he asked, his body taut, like he was ready to pounce.
“Buzz off,” Justin grumbled. Letting loose a string of curse words.
“Strike three,” Ariana muttered. She shot her arm straight up in a swift motion where it connected with Justin’s neck, right under his jaw line. Then she brought her arm back down, using her weight to knock him off his feet where he landed on his back with a heavy thud. Murmurs rippled through the couples surrounding them as they backed away. Justin gurgled, clutching his neck, a dazed look in his eyes.
Ariana’s hands flew to her hips. “Just because I’m Latin does not make me easy!”
Claps broke out around her. “That’s right,” a few of the women agreed. “Dirt bag,” one woman muttered, shooting Justin a death glare.
As Justin stumbled to his feet, Ariana planted herself in a battle stance, ready to do more damage if necessary. Her adrenaline was going, and she’d make short work of him, putting her training to good use. But luckily for Justin, he ducked his head and scuttled away.
“That has got to be the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen.”
She turned to the blonde guy who was looking at her in astonishment, admiration shining in his eyes. “Thanks. I appreciate you trying to help.”
He shoved his hands in his pockets, rocking forward on the balls of his feet. “Yeah, I was trying to rescue you from that creep … not that you needed my help.”
Ariana’s blood was pumping so ferociously that she felt dizzy.
He gave her a concerned look. “Are you okay?”
A wan smile tipped her lips as she ran a hand through her hair. “Yeah, I guess that date didn’t go as planned.”
He chuckled. “Life rarely does.” He held her gaze, and she felt the same buzz she’d experienced earlier. Everything around them slowed, and it was just the two of them. His voice was deeper than she imagined, with a husky edge. Her eyes traced the definition of the muscles underneath his form-fitting t-shirt. Heat fanned her face when she saw the flicker of amusement that turned his hazel-green eyes a honey-gold. He’d caught her checking him out. She jerked her eyes to his face, making a mental note to keep her focus there. He had a fine layer of scruff, emphasizing the lean line of his jaw. She swallowed, feeling she was staring at the real-life version of Thor and Captain America, all rolled into one. Captain Thor. Or Goldie Locks because of his thick tangles of beautiful curls.
People around them resumed dancing, but the two of them just stood there. Ariana knew she should start dancing … or do something to break the tension, but she couldn’t get her body to cooperate.
He cleared his throat, a grin washing over his face. “Um, maybe we should get off the dance floor.”
“Oh, yeah.” She propelled her feet into action. Her mind whirled, going through all that had just happened. She could hardly believe he’d been the one to offer help. When they got to the side, he motioned to an empty table.
“Would you like to sit down?”
Her voice sounded unnaturally high and screechy in her ears. “Sure.”
He pulled out a chair for her and helped her get seated. Wow. Captain Thor was a gentleman to the nth degree. A startling contrast to Justin.
As they sat there, staring across the table at each other, Ariana scrambled for something halfway intelligent to say. “Thanks again. You’re a great dancer,” she blurted. Sheesh. She was making an idiot out of herself. Normally she was calm and cool around men, always knowing the right thing to say. But it seemed her mouth had disconnected from her brain.
His lips curved into a radiant smile, causing the edges of his eyes to crease. “Thanks. You’re pretty good yourself.”
The compliment caught her off guard, sending warm ripples cascading through her. He’d been watching her too. It was good to know the attraction went both ways.
He leaned forward. “Was that guy your boyfriend?”
She wrinkled her nose. “Heck no!” She laughed. “We’d never met in person before tonight. We were matched on a dating app.”
His eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Really?”
She felt foolish and a little desperate for resorting to a dating app. Her explanation gushed out. “It’s an app where people in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area can connect. You know, people with similar interests.” She shrugged. “It seemed like a good idea … in theory.” She scowled, darkness gathering inside her. “Of course, I should’ve known better than to go out with a football coach. Note to self … don’t date anymore coaches or football players. Their egos are the size of a whale, their brains the size of a pea, from one too many hits on the field.”
He laughed. “That’s a bit of a blanket statement.”
Her face fell. “Don’t tell me, you’re a football player.” Of course he was. That would be just her luck.
An easy grin stole over his lips. “Well, if I were, I certainly wouldn’t admit it now.”
She pursed her lips together, assessing him. He didn’t seem bothered by her scrutiny. He just sat there, patiently enduring it. “No, you’re not a football player,” she finally said. “I don’t know what you are, but you’re far too intelligent to play football.”
He cocked his head. “So, all football players are stupid? Is that what you’re saying?”
“Nope. Not all of them. Just about ninety percent.”
“So only ten percent are intelligent.” He grinned. “See, I can do math.”
The teasing tone of his voice caused her to smile. “That’s good to know.”
He tsked his tongue. “What turned you against football players?”
“Aside from Justin?” She lifted an eyebrow, waiting for him to respond.
“Yep, aside from him. I mean, he was a douche bag, but the bite in your voice tells me there’s more.”
When her brother Ace first started playing pro ball, Ariana went out with a few players on the team. After about the sixth disaster, she swore off football players altogether. “Experience,” she finally said.
Interest lit his eyes. “Care to elaborate?”
“Not really,” she said loudly, then felt like she was yelling when the music suddenly stopped.
They turned their attention to the guy on stage holding the microphone. “Folks, we’ve got a fun evening lined up, it’s karaoke night!” He pumped a fist in the air as the crowd cheered.
Ariana’s heart dropped. Oh, no!
The emcee looked down at the sheet of paper in his hand. “To start, we have a duet by Ariana and Justin.”
Captain Thor looked at her. “Is everything okay?”
“Not really.” She groaned. “I’m Ariana.”

Blurb

During our childhood days, we tend to have these crushes on people older than us that fade as we grow up. We never act upon them but they remain as memories that we always cherish.

But what happens when two adults with such an age difference fall in love?

It Happens is a story about how Gautam, a twenty-five-year-old upcoming professional and Roshni, an unmarried thirty-seven-year-old senior management member working in the same multinational bank, face this very question. Can two people with such a vast age difference be compatible?

The story is a romantic comedy that explores this situation in a light-hearted way as they fall in love, get laughed at by their friends and then develop cold feet, thinking about the repercussions their age difference could have on their marriage. Since this happens in India, where marriage is a major social issue, the plot holds further intrigue.

They say love is blind and makes one think with the heart, rather than the mind. Will two smart professionals make a mistake by doing so? Or will they listen to their logical senses at the last moment to avert what may be the biggest blunder of their lives?

It Happens…

Book Blitz - Daughter of the Goddess by Rita J. Webb

Daughter of the Goddess
Rita Webb
Publication date: November 20th 2013
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult
The wind calls her to play.
Will she listen?
I was a nameless child abandoned on the temple doorsteps.
Soul, the gods called me. So they named me Nephecia.
My plans don’t include marriage to some silly nobleman. When I come of age, I will take vows and devote my life to serving the goddess of Light. As a priestess, a daughter of the goddess, I’ll make the world a better place.
The summer before my eighteenth birthday, an oracle arrives with word from the gods: I must leave the only home, the only family, I’ve ever known, to marry a stranger in a foreign land.
There must be some mistake.
If I follow my own plans, I’ll disobey the very goddess I want to serve. But how can I trust the gods have my best interest at heart?
______________________________________________________
Daughter of the Goddess is a Young Adult Fairy Tale retelling of the Greek myth Eros and Psyche, set in a fantasy world.
If you enjoy sweet love stories and fairy tales, then you’ll fall in love with Nephecia’s story. Grab your copy today.

Q&A with author Rita Webb
Where did you get the idea for Daughter of the Goddess?
My favorite Greek myth is the story of Eros and Psyche. I think it’s the only Greek myth I read with anywhere close to a happy ending, even if there was a great deal of turmoil getting there.
The philosopher in me always wondered what a soul really was. When someone says, “That music is full of soul,” what does that mean?
So Nephecia epitomizes what I believe soul means. I took her out of Ancient Greece and put her into a world of my own making.
How did the name “Psyche” become “Nephecia”?
I searched other languages for the word “Soul” and found nephesh in Hebrew.
How did the name “Eros” become “Gabin”?
Gabin is a variation of Gabriel (according to my baby name book), that means “Hero of God.” I remember something about it meaning “Beloved by God” too.
Why do you write stories?
I have 3 daughters, ages 15, 13, and 11, and I want them to grow up believing in their dreams. The only way I can see that happening is if I believe in my own.
What’s your secret to success?
My husband. He believes in me, and when I’m discouraged, he never lets me give up.
What one piece of advice do you have for new writers?
Read, write, study, write some more. Never give up. Okay, that’s 5 pieces of advice.

She took all college prep classes in High school, and attended the University of Akron. Although she studied Mathematics she never lost her passion for writing or her comfort in books. She's a mean cook in the kitchen, loves her family and friends and her awesome dog infinity times infinity. If she's not writing, reading, traveling, hanging out with her family and friends, then she's off having an adventure. Because Natalie believes in a saying: Your life is your own journey, so make it amazing!
