My Musings :

When I finished the first book, I said that I wanted more action to make me continue with the series. The sequel has even less action and more political intrigue. This actually made me enjoy the series more. I know it's contradictory but read on to know my views.

First of all, the story had me scrambling to know what's happening at different instances. It was mind boggling to follow each character's journey. The plot was intricate with every thread leading to a different character. I was mesmerised with the politics of Solypse, more so in this book. It kept me guessing at each point. It was never a case of good versus bad. It was more like which person is on whose side and what are they going to gain from that association.

The whole prophecy thing was revealed more and I got some ideas of its meaning and the people involved. I was expecting to read more about the same characters as the first book. But this one has a new cast of people being in the lime light with the few of the known characters appearing in a few scenes. I believe that the lives of the people of Solypse and everyone underground are the main parts. There is no such thing as a protagonist same as an antagonist. It's the nature of the people which forms the base of the series.

The story line had me hopping trying to keep with the events unfolding in each chapter and as usual, the author has done it in titbit sizes. In short, I liked this one better than the first, which is usually a rare thing.

I am looking forward to continuing this unique series.

My one line review : A more intricate story of Solypse' political intrigue.

My rating : 4/5

My reread factor : 3/5

paulAbout the Author:

Paul Neslusan devours books whole (figuratively speaking), and has since he was a child. When he finally decided to put pen to paper, he set a goal of writing something that was understandable to a fifteen year old, engaging to a twenty five year old, and still compelling to a thirty five year old. Basically, he wanted to write the kind of books that he would want to read, and would have wanted to read when he was younger, and wants to read now. He lives in Central Massachusetts with his extremely patient wife and three children.

The Depths was his first work of fiction, released in December of 2014. His next book in the world of Almir, Maiden of Secrets, will be released in early fall of 2015.
